Providence, being a foodie city is constantly producing trendy little spots that pop up and attract visitors whether it be for a nitro coffee, a craft beer, a gourmet hot dog, or a decadent sweet. (Ironically enough, all of these things can be found at this very spot we are about to share with you). Something that generates a buzz and gets people saying “Oh my GOD you have GOT to try this!” (You would think Providence locals are gossip queens based off of how quickly word of a new spot gets around). But in this instance, the new kid on the block has got so much going for them, we are sure they’re going to be everyone’s newest crush.
The heartthrob we are talking about is Bayberry Beer Hall, tucked into a brick building in Providence’s West End. Inside, we stepped into a space that instantly had us oooh-ing and ahhh-ing. Slide into one of the asymmetrical glossy picnic tables with a group of your friends, and cheers to the weekend. Have a cozy and intimate meal in one of the alcove tables, or let laughs ring while you sway to and fro in the cushioned swings. The space provides a versatile setting for going-outters who want to sip a craft beer or crisp wine in a relentlessly delightful environment that somehow manages to make you feel at home, but also in a Home & Garden magazine spread. Bayberry Beer Hall is trendy meeting classic, with a touch of greenery.
We were sold as soon as we stepped onto the welcome mat, but succumbing to our hungry stomachs only improved our stay. We settled into a few stools at the bar, chatted up the super friendly staff and ordered a couple of glasses of rose. Our forks found their way into the pickled veggies, the soft pretzel, and the toasted nuts. Our veggies were so perfectly tangy and evenly pickled, and served with a creamy aioli which served as a landing spot before meeting our taste buds. The soft pretzel was hearty, doughy and salty; all the qualities you would type into a pretzel dating site when searching for the perfect twisted mate. This guy was served to us with a side of mustard butter (yes, butter + mustard which was whimsical). For light picking, the toasted nuts served as the ideal date for the beer and wine we sipped on. They were seasoned with rosemary and chili and had a slightly smokey linger. So sip, crunch, repeat! We grazed, we drank, we were in bliss.
Our fellow foodie and NYC blogger Rouk (Follow him @beyondtheeats) sunk his teeth into Bayberry’s burger; beef blended with mushrooms, Vermont Cheddar cheese, oozing with a house made tomato jam and cozied up in between two milk buns (milk buns sound good, don't they?) These flavors were bold, but more importantly, JUICY. On the side were little crispy salty potatoes and some sweet buttery pickles.
Bayberry’s vibes were just absolutely killer, and we can’t wait to come back. Taking a look around, we noticed the small details that together, create a gathering space for friends, neighbors, and family to unwind in a homey, elevated casual environment. Accents like the laser wood cut beer menu behind the bar, a glass carafe drying rack, and the vining greens that creep up the corners of walls, makes Bayberry unique. A certain breath of fresh air for Providence’s drinking/dining scene, and surely a destination spot for many. Welcome to the neighborhood, Bayberry. We’re glad to have you.
A serious thank you to Rouk from @beyondtheeats for all of your professional help, to our model Ari (@aricamxo), and to the staff over at Bayberry for being so warm & welcoming! We can't wait to see you again!
